Academic Support

As School Counselors, we aim to support our students with their academic work in a variety of ways, including:

One on One: We can sit down with students and figure out what roadblocks they may be experiencing that is keeping them from their full academic potential.  We can then bring in parties to help the student, whether that's collaborating with teachers, parents, or other support staff.

Guidance Lessons: We provide lessons designed to promote skills necessary for academic success. This can include emotional regulation, time management, study skills, or attention and retention. These will reflect the current needs of students to best augment academic skills taught in the classroom.

Small Groups: Our counselors will offer small groups for students who need extra practice of academic skills beyond the guidance lessons. They will reflect specific needs and will hone in on one specific skill that may benefit a student's academics.

High School Preparation: We understand our students are moving from a small pond into a big lake, and our students experience unique challenges transitioning to high school. Our middle school aims to prepare students for high school by talking about the needed skills and knowledge well before they reach 8th grade. Our counselors also organize lessons, school visits, and student panels to give our students an idea of how to best prepare for the transition to high school.

College/Career Guidance: By helping our students begin to think about their futures and what they may want to do as they become adults, we can build confidence and purpose in school, so that students begin to understand and feel the importance of school and learning.  By building this sense of purpose and becoming lifelong learners, we can change how students see school and academics. We can also begin to break stereotypes and give students in historically marginalized groups hope and opportunity.

Consultation/Collaboration: Our teachers will work with our teachers, administrators, parents and support staff to implement interventions in the classroom to help students with academic needs

We are here to support students and families as they navigate City View and beyond.  If you have any concerns, questions, or needs, please do not hesitate to contact our counselors.
