Social Emotional Support

Our counselors can offer Social/Emotional Support in a variety of ways, including:

Individual Support: Our counselors can sit down with students and discuss a variety of social/emotional topics such as identity, relationships, home life, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts/actions, anger, peer conflicts, or anything else your student may be experiencing.

Small Groups: Our counselors will work with small groups of students around specific social/emotional needs such as grief/loss, separate families, healthy relationships, emotional regulation, and any need presented by students.

Note: In accordance with ethical standards, counselors will maintain confidentiality except under the following conditions:

1. Someone is hurting the student

2. The student has or has plans to hurt another

3. The student has or has plans to hurt themselves

4. The student gives permission for information to be shared

Guidance Lessons: We will offer lessons that target the entire student body around Social/Emotional needs.  These could include brain development, emotional regulation, abuse reporting, suicide awareness, conflict resolution/mediation, healthy relationships, and any other need presented by the student body.

Care Coordinators: Should a student or family need help finding outside resources, particularly around finding a mental health therapist, our counselors can refer families to Care Coordinators who can work with insurance needs of the family to find appropriate outside care.

Community Resources: Our counselors have a variety of knowledge around community resources available to help families meet basic needs, such as food, housing, clothing, school supplies, etc. Our counselors are always willing to talk about needs you or your student may have and where to find resources to help.  This includes resources for families with needs based on race, gender, lgbtq, language, disabilities, etc.

Consultation/Collaboration: Our teachers will work with our teachers, administrators, parents and support staff to implement interventions in the classroom to help students with social/emotional needs.

We are here to support students and families as they navigate City View and beyond.  If you have any concerns, questions, or needs, please do not hesitate to contact our counselors.
